The African Management Development Institutes Network (AMDIN) would like to announce the stepping down of Prof. Busani Ngcaweni from his role as Principal of the National School of Government, South Africa. Consequently, he will also step down from his position as Secretary-General of AMDIN and a member of the Executive Committee. Prof. Ngcaweni will pursue new academic endeavours, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment he has demonstrated throughout his tenure. His visionary approach to public sector reform and capacity building has made an indelible impact across the African continent, and his contributions will be long remembered and valued.

The AMDIN Secretariat will continue to be hosted by the National School of Government, South Africa. In the interim, Ms. Phindile Mkwanazi, Acting Principal of the School, will assume the responsibilities of AMDIN Secretary-General. We wish Prof. Ngcaweni continued success in his future academic pursuits and thank him for his enduring dedication to strengthening governance and professional excellence in the public sector.

Key Achievements of the outgoing Secretary-General

  • Successfully convened AMDIN General Assemblies (2021 & 2024) & facilitated EXCO elections.

  • Led the conversion of the AU’s African Charter into an online training programme accessible to all public servants in Africa.

  • Oversaw the successful rollout of Project Khaedu (frontline service delivery model) across all 5 AMDIN regions.

  • Hosted AMDIN’s 1st continental Economic Governance School in 2022, followed by programmes in Kenya, Zambia & Ghana.

  • Organised webinars and virtual training with partners such as the China Africa Institute & ALSF on the AfCFTA and sustainable mining governance.

  • Reintegrated higher education institutions into AMDIN.

  • Hosted the inaugural African Conference on Public Affairs & Development in Ghana in 2025.

  • Launched the Africa Journal of Public Sector Development and Governance (AJPSDG), an open-access publication with global reach.

  • Reduced annual AMDIN membership fees from $3 000 to $1 000 to increase access.

  • Advanced the African Governance postgraduate diploma, incl. curriculum review – to be offered by Tshwane University of Technology.

  • Expanded AMDIN’s network with new members from Morocco, DRC, Ethiopia, Somalia and Botswana.

  • Introduced a new AMDIN Strategic Plan and refreshed the brand & image of AMDIN.
